I want to take my state off and just file federal

If you just want to file your Federal and not your state then when you get to the File section and are working on the three steps to file, the software will ask you to choose which returns you want to file. Just click on your Federal return and leave your state return blank and proceed to file. This will not file your state return or charge you any fees for it.
