It is still possible. While the offset hotline is never 100% accurate as offsets can be placed recently that may not be in the system, it seems to be less accurate this year. There are many people reporting that they have called the offset hotline and found no offsets only to have an offset applied. If you suspect that you should have an offset (i.e. a past student loan), you should prepare yourself for an offset to be applied. Of course, you may not have one - but its best to prepare as if you do. If an offset is applied, the IRS will send a letter about 3 weeks after the offset is applied.
