TurboTax Premier. I cleaned up everything about 1099-Misc, re-entered ONLY in the Business Income. But I see part of it (box 3) ALSO appearing in Personal Income. Why?

I am using TurboTax Premier.

After making some mistakes (because the questions TurboTax asked me were simply confusing) for 1099-Misc, I cleaned up everything about 1099-Misc and confirmed the entire forms collection is clean by reviewing the entire set, and running Smart Review.

I then re-entered 1099-Misc ONLY from within the Business Income section. When I check the summary of step-by-step income section, I see part of 1099-Misc (i.e., content of box 3) ALSO appearing in Personal Income, while Business Income section shows sum of box 3 and box 7 as income (minus deductions, of course).

No matter whether there is a bug or not in TurboTax for display of entries, this is simply confusing, and I find many people having same question. But no one provided a clear answer for this question for many years, especially whether it is OK or NOT for accurate tax calculation - e.g., double counting the income, paying more tax than owed.

Question is simple - Am I paying more tax because of a bug in TurboTax?

If you actually see this income reported more than once on your 1040, then Yes, but I doubt it.  Click on Forms in the upper right.  Then click on the 1040 on the left to open it.  Look at page 2 to see how the income is reported.
