"Rejected" means it did not go to the IRS. It was not filed. Something was wrong and your e-file did not go through. So you either did not receive your refund, or if you owe you are quite late to pay now.
The only way to file a rejected 2023 return now is by mail. You need to print it, sign and date it in ink, and mail it in. If you do not owe or are getting a refund, there is no penalty for filing late. If you owe tax due, pay the amount as shown on line 37, and expect a bill from the IRS later for the interest and penalty owed.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
it means the IRS never got it to process. so you have not yet filed your 2023 return
if you tried to e-file it after about 10/15/2024, e-filing was closed for 2023, so it has to be printed and mailed. If there are any specific error messages, the issues may have to be addressed other wise you may begetting a notice from the iRS and if you are due a refund it will be delayed. if corrections are needed that can only be done with the desktop version of the 2023 app
