If I'm just reporting with the usual paper tax forms, how do I report dividends for which I didn't receive a 1099-int?

I can add it to my total income from interest, but how do I let the IRS know that it's from the c.u., so that it doesn't just appear as an error?

It won't appear as an error.  There's lots of income and other forms that you have to report even though you don't get a form from a 3rd party.  You just enter it in the program as though you did.  The IRS really doesn't mind if you report what seems to be additional income, they mind when you don't report income after they've received a copy of a form showing you received it.
