The irs will not accept returns until January 24.
If the W-2 income is the only income that you received in 2023, no other employer or other type of income, then you can e-file the federal tax return starting on January 4, 2024.
However, the IRS will not start accepting any type of tax return until mid to late January 2024. So if you file early the return will be sitting on the TurboTax servers waiting for the IRS to pull the tax returns. Once the tax return is e-filed it cannot be pulled back or retrieved so if you need to add or correct anything on the filed tax return you have to wait for the IRS to either Accept or Reject the tax return.
Bottom Line is that there is no reason to file the tax return until after the date the IRS starts to accept returns.
