How did you pay it? Your only proof of payment is your bank statement or credit card showing the payment coming out. Turbo Tax only passes your bank account number to the IRS or state for them to take it out of your account. (Most states do not let you pay by Direct Debit so you have to mail in a check or go directly to the state's website to pay). And some banks use different routing numbers for deposits and payments. Double check the number you entered with your bank.
Check the printout or PDF of your return; look for the state cover sheet with the Turbotax logo. If you owed tax, it will show the payment information and how/when you decided to pay. Read the state payment instructions carefully since most states cannot be paid from within the TT system and requires additional steps.
The state shows I have paid what turbo tax said I owed. Turbo tax said I owed 3820. the state is saying I owe 5158$. how is it that much off. I have a simple return. no investment, no kids, not married
@eddiedicks1 suggest calling the state and ask them. No one on these boards can see your tax return nor how the State re-calculated them.
I understand that.. lol just cant understand how it can be that off.. just didn't know if someone else had this happen
Try comparing 2023 with 2022 return. Maybe you can spot something you left out or entered wrong. Or maybe you can find the $1,338 listed as a credit or something. Double check all the state withholding on your W2 and any 1099 forms.
I just received a letter from the state saying I owe $2k more for 2020 return. The letter stated they compared my state and federal return and there was an errant number entered on the state return. TurboTax automatically carries over the numbers from the federal return. Not sure how this could happen? Still investigating.
