Your only proof that you paid your state tax due is your own bank or credit card records. Do you have a bank or credit statement showing that you paid?
Hi, thanks. Yes, I have the bank transaction made in Oct., but the bill with the penalty is for late payment. Since I filed an extension through TurboTax in April, I was surprised to receive this. I was hoping TurboTax would have a receipt of filing the extension.
Even with an extension you were required to pay your estimated tax due by the filing deadline. An extension does not give you extra time to pay your tax--it only gives you extra time to prepare and file the tax return form.
Gotcha. I paid through TurboTax, but it appears that was only for Federal. It strikes me as not being clearly communicated through the app, but maybe I just missed something. Thanks again.
Shouldn't TurboTax have given me the option when I filed the extension to pay my State too? I only paid the Federal when I filed the extension it seems, but I thought I'd taken care of both. I wonder if other folks have run into the same issue?
TurboTax never knows how, when or even if you pay your tax due. Most states want to be paid via check or money order or by credit/debit on their own tax sites. It was up to you to make the payment.
Got it. so only the federal gets paid through TurboTax. Thanks for the quick replies!
