I purchased the software from Staples for $64.. When I started I had to upgrade to self employed. How do I get credit for the $64 i've already paid towards the balance?

Oh, no.  Did you start using Online Deluxe by mistake?  The Online TurboTax and software version are not interchangeable.     Did you purchase Deluxe Federal and State from Staples?    The Deluxe desktop software is fully-featured, can handle Schedule C, and would not require an upgrade for a self-employed business, unless one optionally wanted more help and guidance.  

 

The cheapest solution is to download the *.tax2019 data file you prepared in Online Self-Employed Edition and finish it and file in the Deluxe desktop software without starting over.   Or if you want to continue in Online TurboTax, we can tell you how to get a refund for your Staples purchase.

I mentioned above how you can switch from the Online version to your desktop software without starting over.   That's the cheapest way out of this scenario.
