I only have $521 in interest showing as income for my Alabama state tax. Why does Turbo Tax want me to file? Standard deduction is $17,555.

TurboTax thinks like a computer, so it needs to create the return.    

You must file an Alabama state income tax return if you live in Alabama and your gross income exceeds the following thresholds:

• Single: $4,000 
• Married Filing Separately: $5,250 
• Head of Family: $7,700 
• Married Filing Jointly: $10,500 

Nonresidents must file a return if their Alabama income exceeds the allowable prorated personal exemption.

If you do not have to file an Alabama return, simply delete it from your return.
