You must file an Alabama state income tax return if you live in Alabama and your gross income exceeds the following thresholds:
- Single: $4,000
- Married Filing Separately: $5,250
- Head of Family: $7,700
- Married Filing Jointly: $10,500
Nonresidents must file a return if their Alabama income exceeds the allowable prorated personal exemption.
If you do not have to file an Alabama return, simply delete it from your return.
