I noticed my federal due amount did not change after I entered over $8,500.00 I paid last year in 2022. We Refinanced, but that was paid out in 2021 any ideas?

When I entered charitable donations of any amount, it started to drop in the Federal due amount.  However, not after the significant amount I entered for the mortgage interest.   I know it's deductible.   We used the refi in 2021 to do repairs and upgrades on our home.   But that was in 21.  Not in 22.

We'd love to help you complete your tax return but need more information. Can you please clarify your question?

  • I do understand that you refinanced in 2021.
    • You took cash out.
    • You used it for home improvements.
  • I don't understand what the $8,500 is for.
    • What did you expect would happen?
    • What was it for?
  • You stated that when you entered charitable donations the tax due went down.
    • That is what I would expect.
