I moved partway through 2019, can I file a single W2 for federal taxes so I can efile, and file 2 W2s for state?

I received 2 seperate W2s, one has all of my federal info on it and one state/local tax info on it.  The 2nd W2 has blank federal info (box 1, etc), but shows only income earned while living in the 2nd state and applicable taxes.  I uploaded both W2s, but when I go to efile it says I can't efile federally because Box 1 on one of my W2s is blank.

Do I have to upload both W2s or can I just add the one showing federal and add a 2nd row to the state portion of my income?

Basically, what you have is 2 W-2's from the sale employer, right? The Federal Employer Identification Number is identical on both W-2's. This is most common when you have more than one state to show in boxes 15-17 and/or more than one locale in boxes 18-20. You need to enter this "AS IF" it was all reported on one single W-2.

In the TurboTax program go to the W-2 data entry screen where you entered the *FIRST* W-2. Scroll down to box 16 and manually type in the data from the first state. When you enter the data for box 17 and press the tab key on your keyboard, another line for boxes 15-17 will "magically" appear where you will enter the income and tax information for the 2nd state. The program can handle up to 10 states and 10 locales on a W_2.

Once done, you need to delete the erroneously entered W-2 from your return.

Yes, you can make one W-2 entry that shows both your Federal and State info.

Delete the entry with no amount in Box 1 and Edit the entry with wage info and add State amounts.
