I made roughly 37000 paid 3500 roughly to federal and apparently owe 10 grand what gives

You need to print it out first to see if you double or triple-entered something.  Certainly, if it was all cash or 1099-MISC income and not W-2 income, your tax is a lot higher, but not that high

Also, you can look at a preview of your 1040 to see if some INCOME line is out of whack, ( the tax is calculated based on your income)  and you go back correct it.

To Preview your 1040....log back into your tax file and get into it.
Then choose <"Tax Tools" form the left-side menu.
then <<"Tools"
then a pop-up....you select <<<"View Tax Summary"

The sheet there may not be detailed enough to spot the problem, but on the let side of the screen is a new selection for :

 <<<<"Preview my 1040"

Now you can scan your 1040 line-by-line.  lines 7-thru-37 are all your income sources....is there some income that is just all wrong?...go back and fix it....TTX only puts in the numbers you entered, or imported by you.
