Do you have a TurboTax Online account?

We'll help you get started or pick up where you left off.

I'm curious how my account was created? I never signed up/made an account with Intuit, and yet somehow an account was made with my private email/phone. Is it a scam?

I have been receiving emails from TurboTax to file my taxes to get my return, and I was confused because I have never used TurboTax before, and yet somehow it had my email, name, and private information already in this account. Also, the username for the account is some random username that I would have never selected. It just seems really creepy and I also wanted to make sure it wasn't a scam.

Turbotax is part of Intuit, and Intuit uses a single login for all their sites.  So if you had an account with Quickbooks, or one of the other help bulletin boards, you automatically have an account here.  Intuit also merged with Credit Karma, so if you have an account there, it may have been merged to Turbotax.

If that doesn't explain it for you, you can contact support and ask to speak to account security.

And I didn't know the password to the account, but it automatically had MY phone number and email as the recovery/security contacts to be able to reset the password and send me the one-time codes. Again, I don't understand how this is even possible if I never made an account.

Thanks for the help!!

That makes a bit more sense. How about the username though, would Intuit have created that username when automatically having an account for TurboTax? That's the thing that's confusing me the most because even if my TurboTax account was created automatically, I've never seen, used, or selected the username "college2019troy".

That I don't know.  On this forum, you can change your display name (the software calls it "username") and your display name or user name does not have to be the same as your login account.  You access this by clicking your user icon in the top right corner and going to "My settings".   Maybe your display name was automatically generated from something else in your profile, like your email address?

Okay, thank you for the help! I really appreciate it!

Last thing - so you definitely don't think it was a scam or someone trying to make a fake account or get my info somehow? If I'm able to log into the actual account through the Intuit website (and being able to post here as well), it must be legitimate? That was my biggest concern that this might all be fraudulent.

Like I said, if you have concerns, call the security department.  If you had a Credit Karma account and your information matches, that was probably it.  If someone else did create an account in your name, I can't imagine why they would use your real email address since that would allow you to change the password and lock them out.  But I suppose stranger things have happened.

If you log into your Turbotax account and select "Intuit Account" at the bottom left, you will be taken to the centralized page for any of your Intuit accounts, you can check your history, change passwords and so on.

Sounds great! Thank you again for all the help! I really appreciate it.
