I'm 22 and lived with my dad for more than half the year in 2024, but I was not a full-time student. Can he still claim me as a dependent?

Your father can claim you as a dependent if you made less than $5,050 in 2024 and he provided more than half of your financial support.  Otherwise, you don't qualify as his dependent.  For more information see the following TurboTax article:  Who can I claim as my dependent?

I made more than $5,050 in 2024, but he paid more than half of my financial support while I was living with him. Even though he supported me for more than 6 months of the year, is he not qualified to claim me because my personal income was too high?

No, your father can't claim you as a dependent because your income was greater than $5,050 and you weren't a full-time student 24 or under.

You would have to meet all of the requirements below for your father to claim you as a dependent:

To determine if ‌you are a qualifying child, the following questions must be true:

  • You must be related to the person claiming you,
  • You can’t be claimed as a dependent by anyone else.
  • You must be a U.S. citizen, resident alien, national, or a Canadian or Mexican resident.
  • If You are married, you can’t file a joint return with your spouse.
  • You must be under the age of 19 (or 24 for full-time students).
    • No age limit for permanently and totally disabled children.
  • You must have lived with your father for more than half the year (exceptions apply).
  • You didn't provide more than half of your own support for the year.

If you don't qualify as a qualifying child, you may be a qualifying relative. The following questions must be true:

  • You can’t be claimed as a dependent by someone else.
  • You must be a U.S. citizen, resident alien, national, or a Canadian or Mexican resident.
  • If You are married, you can’t file a joint return with your spouse.
  • You must live with your father all year.
  • You can’t have made more than $5,050 in income in 2024.
  • Your father must provide more than half of your total support for the year.

For additional information, review the TurboTax article Rules for Claiming a Dependent on Your Tax Return.

Are you planning on filing a tax return for 2024?  If your total income is under the filing requirement, you don't have to file a tax return.  The federal filing requirement depends on your filing status, your age, and your income.

Refer to the TurboTax Help article Do I need to file a federal return this year? to determine if you are required to file a tax return.
