Yes. You should have a 1099G for the unemployment you received in 2022. It must be entered on your tax return with any of the other income you received in 2022.
UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION
Unemployment compensation is taxable on your federal return.
You will have to enter a 1099G that is issued by your state.
Some states will mail out the 1099G. Or you might need to go to your state’s unemployment website and use the password, etc. that you have been using to certify for weekly benefits to get your 1099G from the state’s site.
Enter your 1099G in Federal>Wages & Income>Unemployment
Go through the screens very carefully, making sure to enter any federal/state tax you had withheld from the unemployment.
Yes I understand that I do have a 1099G but my tax refund changed when I removed it . It went hire with just my W2 I just wanted to make sure it was ok to save the first few months of unemployment until I file next year because I am still receiving unemployment I have unemployment after the new year . I did see at one point while filling on TurboTax a question where it ask if we want to carry it on to next year but was not sure if I seen it correctly.
@don49gator Yes, of course your refund decreased when you added the unemployment because you added taxable income. ALL of your 2022 income is required to be entered on your 2022 tax return. No....you cannot wait and enter your 2022 unemployment next year. You misunderstood something. Your state reports that 1099G to the IRS for 2022. If the 2022 income you enter on your 2022 return does not match the income reported to the IRS you will get a nasty letter from the IRS.
