When you use Online TurboTax, you get one return per fee.  Each return needs its own account and user ID.   If you use the same account and user ID for a second return, you overwrite the first one and lose it forever.

Many people have multiple TT accounts and forget how to access them.  Log out of the account you are in now.

Online is only good for one return per account. But you can use the same email address for 5 accounts. Online is only good for 1 return per account. So don't use your account or you will overwrite your return.

Start another Online return here. Sign up and start a new account.

The Desktop program can do unlimited returns and efile 5 federal for free. You can buy the Desktop CD or the Download program here,

After you file or just print the return for mailing, you should save it.

Go to File in top left corner and click on it.  Pull down menu click on New Tax Return.  It will then ask you if you want to save the current return.  Say yes and then it will show you where it normally saves the file.  Click save.

Now your son's file will close automatically, and you will get the option box of Continue Your 2023 Tax Return which should show your sons but below that is a blue box for Start a New Return.  Click on that box for your daughter's new return.

THE Poster here is believed to be using the "Online" software.

Your directions are for the "Desktop" software, that the question does not apply to.

Of course, if @coby-mickey is actually using the Desktop software, your directions should work just fine.
