I have completed and filed my 2019 taxes. In January I sold a large amount of stock so I am assuming I need to pay estimated taxes. How can I print the vouchers for this?

Thanks for the reply Coleen. Unfortunately I have already submitted the return, so I don't see the "Take me to my return button". I only see "Download/print" return.

You can go to the IRS 1040-ES webpage.

The instructions are in the "form". Use the worksheet (if you want) beginning on page 8 to help you calculate what you should pay to avoid penalty.

Then you can fill in the forms online and print and mail then one by one.

Thanks Bill, I will check this out. If I pay estimated taxes for Q1 and then later on dont have any special stock sales like I did, do I still have to pay estimated taxes in Q2,Q3 and Q4 ?

You don't have to pay estimated taxes after quarter one if your tax withheld in the following quarters is sufficient to compensate for your tax liability in those quarters.

Also, you can pay your estimated tax online by visiting this IRS website:

Does Turbotax provide tools (similar to filing regular taxes) to estimate and file estimated taxes?

Yes. You can use TurboTax to calculate your 2020 estimated taxes by doing this:

  1. With your tax return open, search for 1040-es (be sure to include the dash) and select the Jump to link.
  2. Answer No to the question Do you want to change your W-4 withholdings for 2020?
  3. Answer the questions about things like your 2020 filing status, income, and deductions.
  4. Eventually, you'll come to the Print Vouchers? screen. Answer Yes and we'll include your 2020 1040-ES payment vouchers when you print a copy of your return later.

TurboTax uses the most recent info when calculating your 2020 estimated taxes.

I have amended the return to print out the vouchers. I did this just to print the vouchers, I will not be filing the amendment.

The vouchers are asking me to pay $X 4 times throughout 2020. If I made my stock sale in January should I pay the total (4 * $X) together for April 15 or do I have to pay this amount of $X 4 times through the year?
