even without a 1099 it's still income that is reported on schdule C.
Keep your own records for your income in case you do not receive a Form 1099-MISC in 2021 for your work. You can enter the income as 'cash' without having a Form 1099-MISC.
@AnnetteB6 So, if I get paid electronically can I still file it as cash? I'm most concerned if I file and they don't. I guess what I'm asking is...based on the amount being paid, should I send the owner a w-9 and ask if he's filling a 1099-MISC? They go hand in hand right?
Yes, even if you are paid electronically, you can still enter the income as cash. The cash entry just means there is not a tax document backing it up. That's why you would need good records of your income in order to claim it.
You could have a discussion with the owner regarding the Form 1099-MISC and W-9 since you will be earning more than the minimum amount where they would be required to send you a Form 1099-MISC. And yes, these forms do work together. The W-9 is a way for the company to officially request your tax ID so that they can issue you a Form 1099-MISC.
