I got rejected by turbo tax so I went somewhere else to file my taxes...will i also get rejected there?

That is ridiculous because clearly nearly everyone is having issues this year.

I will suggest you to print out your tax forms and paper file to the IRS.  To see explanations, click here:

Correct AGI got rejected

The AGI is calculated as follows:

  • It is equal to the total income you report that’s subject to income tax—such as earnings from your job, self-employment, dividends and interest from a bank account—minus specific deductions, or “adjustments” that you’re eligible to take.
  • Your AGI is calculated before you take the standard or itemized deductions —which you report in later sections of the return.

I did not file Turbo Tax for 2019; I mailed my return to the FEDS.  Is this the reason that my AGI was not accepted??  I know what I listed for the AGI was 100% correct.

You can check with the social security administration.  Their information database is where IRS gets a lot of information for their database.

There have been a lot of problems entering the correct AGI to match the IRS database this year.  A lot of taxpayers have had their prior year agi reject when they knew it was correct.

Here are some suggestions from IRS:

Special Instructions to Validate Your 2020 Electronic Tax Return

If your 2019 tax return has not yet been processed, enter $0 (zero dollars) for your prior year adjusted gross income (AGI).

If you used the Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here tool in 2020 to register for an Economic Impact Payment in 2020, enter $1 as your prior year AGI. For more information, see Claiming the Recovery Rebate Credit if you aren’t required to file a tax return.

When self-preparing your taxes and filing electronically, you must sign and validate your electronic tax return by entering your prior-year Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) or your prior-year Self-Select PIN.

Generally, tax software automatically enters the information for returning customers. If you are using a software product for the first time, you may have to enter the information yourself.

There are several ways to find your prior-year AGI:

Preferred Method

You should always retain a copy of your tax return.

  • On your 2019 tax return, your AGI is on line 8b of the Form 1040.
  • If you used a paid preparer last year, you might obtain a copy of last year’s tax return from that preparer.
  • If you are using the same tax preparation software that you used last year, that software will likely have your prior-year tax return for you to access.
  • If you’re not using the same tax preparation software as last year, you may be able to access your prior-year software and view an electronic copy of your prior-year return.
  • If you are a first-time filer over the age of 16 enter zero as your AGI.
  • If you have an Identity Protection (IP) PIN (via a CP01A or the Get an IP PIN Tool), you should enter it when prompted by your software. It will serve to verify your identity, instead of your prior-year AGI or prior-year Self Select PIN. Starting mid-January 2021, you can opt into the IP PIN program through the online tool.

So if my return was rejected 3xs thru turbo, due to your mistake, and I file and am accepted somewhere else, turbo tax is still going to charge me?

If your return was rejected through TurboTax, it means something on the return you attempted to file through TurboTax did not match what is on file with the SSA.   You pay before you submit your returns.   We cannot guarantee the IRS will accept your return as there are times when things don't match.   If you were able to successfully e-file elsewhere, then that return contained information that did match the SSA data and is different than what is on your TurboTax return.   You can print out the return and compare it side by side to the return you filed to see what was different.    But the fee is for preparing the return.       @jamimarie

You didn't really answer whether or not the fee paid by Turbo Tax will be refunded or not...

I keep getting rejected by the irs. The AGI is what turbotax has on file since most of the information was already there because I used them last year. What can I do?

@tnc4 Try using zero

How do you closely review getting your husband’s name and ss# wrong those don’t change. I just thought it was a load of bull to be rejected and told to file thru the mail, oh btw you can’t have your payment deducted so we will need 187$ from me first. Not! The whole point in e-filing is the security factor and you still want to charge me an outrageous amount of money to mail them in because mailing in the info fixes the incorrect info that’s just being greedy, not thanks I take my business elsewhere even if it means I don’t get as much back, and now that the distaste of your name is on my tongue I won’t be back as a customer.

TT does not reject your filing, the IRS does.  Sometimes the Soc Sec Admin makes an error when correcting someone else's file, so check with them.  That's where the IRS gets the SSN info.

How do I fix my rejected Alabama state taxes for code Al40-050. I only worked in Alabama am not getting any help

Go back to your W-2 entry in your Federal return.  Type 'w-2' in the Search area and 'Jump to W-2' to get there.

On the W-2 summary page, if you have a duplicate W-2, delete it.

If not, Edit your W-2.

The Wages in Box 1 need to also be entered in Box 16 if they are not already there.

Box 15 should be AL (plus Employer's State ID).  Box 17 shows any Alabama tax withheld.

If you imported your W-2, you may want to delete it and re-enter it.

Here's How to Manually Enter a W-2.

So if I tried to file with turbo and got rejected multiple times then went somewhere else and got rejected also. Then I fix the AGI problem with turbo and now it’s saying my dependents can’t be file on multiple returns. Is trying file at different places causing this error even if both places rejected me? Do I go back to the 2nd place and try to fix the problem there?
