I have same issue. According to this you have til the 20th to send the 4868 in by mail and if you owe, you can pay at IRS Direct Pay. Don't know if there's any penalty or interest associated with paying 24 hours late. https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/4742863-what-can-i-do-if-i-filed-my-federal-new-york-or-massachuse...

You can resubmit the rejected extension. As long as it was originally filed before the deadline, you have until April 20th to fix the rejected extension.

But can you resubmit through TurboTax? I have the CD version and when I log in I no longer see anythign in my account, where yesterday it showed "extension request Pending". There was no Orange link in the email I got from TT either. I was very careful to enter AGI correctly. I did set up a new PIN for each of us when prompted by TT and wrote them down, and used them appropriately so don't understand the rejection.

Try this - log into your online account and see if you see a File Extension option in lower corner. If not, click Take Me to My Return and under Manage My Returns, there should be a File Extension option. See if this method gets you back into the extension form to resubmit. Otherwise, you might want to just print the form 4868 and mail it and use IRS Direct Pay as laid out in the article in your answer above.

Thx - None of those options appear and I see the same comment by another CD user that used EZ extension, no references to our extension anymore. When I do what you suggest it says, we see you didn't file with us last year. Nothing shows under My Returns, that is just apparently for online TT users. By googling (this link should be in the CD version or on the TT page!) I CAN go here https://turbotax.intuit.com/irs-tax-extensions/... link inside the blue at the top takes you to the fill-in-the blank Extension page to prepare it, but Continue takes you to "Were you active military serving outside of the U.S. as of April 15, 2019?". If you say No, then it says "Unfortunately, the deadline for filing an extension has passed*. If you say Yes, you can proceed. So what happens if you say Yes but weren't military? Does this affect anything at the IRS? There's also a link to pay on this page.

Its a different type of extension - its an automatic extension for two months but requires a statement attached to your return. I am not sure if you are able to bypass that one and proceed with a regular extension filing. My hope was that this method would lead you back into your actual extension filing and you could resubmit. It appears that isn't the case and I would assume that it would get marked as a new filing and not "fixing your rejected" one. You might want to check back tomorrow and if others are having this issue, there may be more information available for a fix or workaround by that time. Otherwise, it might be easiest at this point to mail the extension. You can include a copy of the rejection confirmation (but the IRS will have it in their system).

Thanks for info and suggestion. Seems like the TT intention is for customers to re-efile it since it says "revise and resubit". - FYI the Extension on this page for military is the normal 6 month 4868; they automatically get 2 mos without filing anything, but if they think they will need more than 2 mos can file the 4868 like the rest of us. https...>

I paid my amount due at IRS Direct Pay, (choosing "Extension" for the payment reason) on the 17th just after midnight. When you pay that way you don't need to file a paper 4868. Just got off the phone with the IRS and my Extension was accepted with a due date of Oct 15. So they must connect the dots from the Rejected one to the one filed within 5 days.
