I had taken pictures of a freak accident by a celebrity. TMZ approached me & asked me if I wanted to sell them the pictures. I agreed. So I emailed the pictures I took with my cel phone to them. They sent me a 1099 misc form and listed the $900 in box 2 (royalties). Was that the correct form for them to use? And was/is that the correct box to put the monies in? I never gave them physical pictures or a thumb drive. I just emailed the pictures to them. And I don't work as a professional photographer. I have another profession in which I've been in for 40 years and file taxes as such.

Yes. This income was produced due to your creative efforts and considered royalties. The IRS insists that royalties for creative efforts be reported on Schedule C, making that income subject to self-employment tax.
