Please explain more. How are you trying to start the program or open the return? I assume you are using the Desktop installed program (your post shows the Online verison). Did you get the 2023 program installed ok? It should start without trying to open any return. To start over go up to FILE - NEW.
Do you want to open the .tax2023 file? Is there an error code? Where did you get the 2023 tax file? Are you switching from the Online program? Could it be this........
After you get the program installed or reinstalled the first thing to do before you open your tax return is to update the program and install any state programs you had. Then open your file. So you first might need to start a fake return to be able to download the state program (go to FILE - NEW). Enter some basic information, then go to the state tab and download the state program. Then try to open your existing return, go to FILE - OPEN
When using the TurboTax desktop editions, after starting a New tax return click on the button labeled Continue Without Transferring
When I tried to open my 2024 tax return it asked for my password (which I didn't remember) then asked my security question which I answered. It then opened 2024 Turbotax with that message. I spent two hours on the phone with Turbotax Help and got nowhere. They said the file must be corrupted. Today instead of answering the security question I tried an old password and suddenly my 2024 Turbotax opened with all my data and I transferred it into Turbotax 2025. Whew!
I think there must be some glitch in Turbotax so that using your security question instead of the password brings up that "wrong tax year etc." screen.
