I fostered a dog through heart worm treatment.

I fostered a dog that had heart worms and rescued them from the shelter. We housed and fed the dog and took care of basic needs. The rescue we were helping to find a home for the dog paid for the medications, but we had to pay for food and the vet bills for check-ups. Can I deduct those costs under a charity or what is the appropriate way, if any, to do this?

You will enter it as a Charitable Donations-  Donations to Charity.  Category= Other Personal Property.  Use Present Value and enter the total.  You only have to enter the amount you are deducting, but I recommend keeping an itemized record with your tax records.

So do I put the name of the Charity in the Charity Field, or put Other Personal Property? Also, do I put this as a cash donation amount and choose one date or input all the dates for items that I purchased (i.e. toys, food, leashes, collar)? Need further assistance. Thank you for the help.

Same question as above.  I currently have it set to Charity, and each item listed by date using the ItsDeductableOnline software but it doesn't give an option for fostering.
