I filed my 2023 w-2 with my 2024 tax return.

I mistakenly filed my 2023 w-2 on my 2024 tax return. It had already been submitted and is processing through the IRS. What should I do? Wait until it has finished processing or amend my return to remove the w-2 from the previous year?

Yes, you should wait until it has finished processing. If your return gets rejected, you can fix the return and re-submit for e-file.  If it is accepted, you will need to amend to correct the W-2 issue.

Looked at my transcript and saw codes 150 and 570. Will I get a refund and then have to amend it?

Yes you will have to file an amended tax return, but you must wait for the original one to be processed.

The IRS Code 150 means that your tax return has been filed successfully.

  • Code 150 is an internal IRS code used during tax return processing.
  • It means that they have received your tax return and placed it into their system.
  • This first processing stage verifies basic information like your name, social security number, address, and more, but it does not analyze the return  for calculation accuracy.

How do I amend my federal tax return for a prior year?
