Married this year, but haven't changed last name on soc. security card. My w2 will reflect my maiden name. Do I file as married or single?

Will IRS audit me if I file single?
My wages this year will be around $15k, husband's is around $40k. We are also expecting our first in November, so should he claim the baby on his return or mine?

If you are legally married as 12/31/2018 then you can only file the 2018 tax return as either Married Filing Jointly or Married Filing Separately.  The best way to file when married is MFJ.  You claim your child as your dependent on the MFJ tax return.

On your tax return you enter the name as shown on your current Social Security card.  Your last name and your spouse's last name do not have to be the same on a tax return.  The name on the W-2 and the name on the tax return also do not have to be the same, only the Social Security number must match.

If you do plan to change your name on your SS card, do so soon, and notify your employer.

I do plan on changing my last name. Also, I am quitting my job at the end of October so would notifying my employer at this point make a difference? I know processing time can take upwards of a week or two. Thx

You are never required to change your name on the SS card however when you file a return you must use the name on the current card even if you are married.  Make sure the employer has your correct address for the W-2 that will be mailed in January.
