To remove the QBI, in TurboTax online,

1.  Sign into your account, select Take me to my return

2.  Select Tax Tools, click on the drop down arrow

3.  Select Tools

4.  Under Other helpful links, choose Delete a form

5.  Select Delete next to the form 8995 and Continue with My Return

If it does not resolve the issue, please also see post from Victoria D75 at this link:  https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/delete-form-8995/00/1398475

My husband and I do not qualify, yet TurboTax is giving us a QBI discount and printing form 8995.  This is wrong.  How can I correct with desktop TurboTax?

We are not self-employed.  We are not small business owners.  We do not qualify and I can't find how to remove this credit.

What income is generating IRS form 8995?  I suspect that the second income component is generating IRS form 8995.

The Qualified Business Income Deduction can be generated from one of two components.

  • The QBI component can result from a sole proprietorship, partnership, S corporation, trust or estate.  The first component would likely be reported on Schedule C, Schedule E, Schedule F or a K-1.
  • The REIT / PTP component can be generated from qualified real estate investment trust (REIT) dividends or qualified publicly traded partnership (PTP) income.  The second component could be reported on 1099-DIV or a K-1.

If you can identify the source of the QBI, you can delete the form and re-enter or run through the TurboTax questions to make sure that the correct entry has been made.

I have no Schedule C, Schedule E, Schedule F, or a K-1.  I have two W-s's only, my husband and I both work for large corporations.  No real estate, sole proprietorship, partnership, S corporation, trust or estate.  No qualified real estate investment trust (REIT) dividends or qualified publicly traded partnership (PTP) income.

There is NO source income for this deduction and I can't find a way to remove it.

Something in the program is checked incorrectly and causing it to generate the QBI form.  Until that it corrected the QBI form will show up again even after it is deleted.

This could be a browser error.

Use the Chrome browser
Click the three dots in the upper right corner
Select Settings

Privacy and Security

Clear browser data for all time

Insert clear browser pic

Then sign in to TurboTax on the Chrome browser

Go through your programs and see if any fields have been used that are not familiar to you.  Sometimes a program can have an invisible error.  Which means something is checked in the source programming but not displaying on the screen.  Clearing browser data will usually correct this.
