we can't say since we have no access to your return. certain items are affected when you are a dependent that are not affected if you are not. The fact your parents didn't claim you is irrelevant. the only way to know is to save a copy of the return as it is now. then go back in to prepare an amended return by checking that box, if every line on every form stays the same as the original then you are ok. if something changes you'll have to wait until your return is fully processed and then file the amended return. if you have a state return also check that.
It depends. You won't necessarily be in trouble, but if someone could claim you but they did not and you took credits that you are not eligible for if someone else can claim you then you may need to correct your return.
Your parents could claim you if you are under 24 and a student or under 19 and not a student and they you did not provide more than half of your own support for the year or if you are not a student but they provided over half of your support and you did not earn more than $4,700.
For instance, if you are eligible to be claimed as a dependent on your parents return you would not be eligible for the Earned Income Credit or the Education Credits. So, if you claimed these credits and your parents CAN claim you but did not, you would need to Amend Your Return but you will need to wait until your return is accepted or rejected to make any changes if you already submitted your return. If you did not submit your return yet, you will just need to go back into the personal info section and correct your answers IF they are wrong.
How old are you? Do you work? Can either of them claim you?
