I am with a consumer direct marketing company and must order each month to remain eligible for commission (all types of household products). Are these orders deductible?

Consumer direct marketing might be considered a network marketing business as well.

Yes, they are deductible as business expenses.  You will enter the information under the Inventory/ Cost of Good Sold section.

In the TurboTax Self-Employed online version, to enter inventory related to your business, here are these steps:

  • Sign in to your account and select Pick up where you left off
  • At the right upper corner, in the search box, type in schedule C, then Enter
  • Select Jump to schedule C
  • On-screen, Did you have any self-employment income or expenses?  Answer Yes, continue through step-by-step interview questions about your business
  • On-screen, Your Business, scroll down to Inventory/Cost of Goods Sold, select Start or Update
  • Continue to enter information
