I am unsure if my parents are alive or not. What do I answer when asked if they are deceased?

Havent seen or heard from my parents in 5 years. Last I heard both were in the hospitable on complications but was never confirmed on their survival. 

To make sure my question is clear, I mean what do I answer when my tax form asks me on that living status of my parents.
