I received an email from TurboTax informing me that I can now transmit my NC resident & SC non resident taxes. Every time I do I get the message:
Tax Year 2021 transmissions are not available
i am having the same problem with my NC e-filing, i updated today and paid the e-file fee. now i get this message, "The Intuit Electronic Filing system is having difficulty recognizing the data in the return you are sending. Check for updates or search support.turbotax for a workaround.

The North Carolina Individual Income Tax Return Form D-400 is not yet available for e-filing. It is estimated to be available on 02/24/2022

The issue is that everyone is saying they get the error message and everyone saying they got the Intuit Turbo Tax email that the update is ready and then they successfully updated TurboTax, paid their money, etc. etc. But the same answer is being replied to these messages that the forms are not available and will not be ready until 2/24/22. We know that. More explanation is needed.
* Was told by TurboTax to be on look out for email when updates are ready.
*Waited a couple weeks
*Received the TurboTax email that states the following: "The wait is over! The tax forms we needed to finish up your taxes are ready. Form D-400.... then it instructs to open TurboTax and install the updates and your forms will be included.
*Started TurboTax, Updated for and it stated for North Carolina (Released 2/9/2022)
*TurboTax finished up the NC portion , went through the whole checkout process and even let you view/save the 2021 D-400 form that's gonna be filed.
*Turbotax without error takes your $20 of course.
*Then generic error message that it cannot file.
Some explanation needs to given by Intuit other than some generic message, direct you to come here to see if there is solution or work around. I think they knew of this to lock you in and to give them more time instead of you filing by mail or several other forms of e-filing and some of those are free for most people. I always gladly paid my $20 because it was convenient and you are done with both at same time. Next year, I will look into the free e-filing for state.
Not done yet..fine !!...but to go tell me they are ready, then I can actually finish and view the form, take my money all without problems just to let me know with a general message to look for a solution or work around on my own at a "Intuit Message board".. is unsatisfactory.. and needs more of a explanation or response from Intuit.
I'm having the same issue. NC tax updates were done yesterday (11Feb2022) and still have an issue. The $20 filing fee was paid but the return is not being transmitted. The review is clean so what is causing this?
That is the estimated tax underpayment penalty form only. The form D400 is available.
This seems to be an issue with North Carolina. There were two forms unavailable and I could not complete my taxes until they were. I received an Intuit update saying that the forms were available and was able to pass the roadblock to attempt to file. Then I got this same message indicating that TurboTax was not ready to file for TY 2021. I went back and removed NC from the file list and my federal was transmitted without issue. As others have indicated, I have already paid for NC, so my hope is that Intuit remembers that when they finally get their product ready to transmit NC returns. It would also be nice if they let those of us who have struggled know when they fix their issue.
I went through the whole process and paid the filing fee to get this message: " The Intuit Electronic Filing System is having difficulty recognizing the data in the return you are sending. Make sure your TurboTax program is up to date: Go to the Online menu and select Check for Updates. If you still can't transmit your return, go to www.support.turbotax.com for a solution or workaround. In some cases, you may need to file this return by mail. Tax year 2021 are not available. -TurboTax is not ready to process Tax Year 2021 for this return." I have updated Turbo Tax and it says I am up to date. Perhaps the email saying TurbotTax was ready to transmit NC returns was premature? Is there a time table for when this will actually be available?
My TurboTax is updated with all the current files but when I try to transmit my NC state return I get the following error message. $20 has been paid to transmit my return. What's up?

I am having the same issue where it is unable to transmit electronically yet I've already paid the filling fee for state. NC state forms are updated and available. Why is it not allowing the data transmittal?

If you want to e-file your federal tax return now then change how you file the NC state return. This assumes that all of the forms and schedules included in your federal tax return are available for e-filing.
If using the TurboTax online editions click on File on the left side of the online program screen. On Step 3 of the File section click on Start or Revisit. Select the button File by Mail. Then change the filing status of the state return.
After the federal return is e-filed and accepted by the IRS you can e-file the state return when it is available for e-filing. Just use the same procedure and change the state return back to e-filing.
I got the same message when trying to file Fed and NC State at the same time. I went back and deselected NC and just filed Federal. Went through fine and and received confirmation. I hope Intuit advises when the NC glitch is fixed so I don't have to keep coming back over and over to file state return.
i am having the same problem with transmitting after paying for NC e filing. More problems with Turbo Tax this year than the last 20 years combined. What is their problem? I tried all their suggested workarounds and nothing changed.
