I am trying to skip the homebuyers credit for on state but it won’t let me. I have never purchased a home so I’m not sure why it won’t let me skip this.

I have gone back and checked my answers and everything looks fine so I’m not sure why it wants me to fill this form out

Please clarify -- what state tax return are you working on?

Alabama

I am trying to skip the homebuyers credit for on state but it won’t let me. I have never purchased a home so I’m not sure why it won’t let me skip this.

First, verify your Alabama entries in TurboTax Online:

  1. Open TurboTax Online
  2. Select  Tax Home in the left pane
  3. Select the dropdown to the right of State Taxes
  4. Select  Pick up where you left off
  5. Proceed through the state interview until you get to First Time Second Chance Homebuyer Accounts
  6. If none of the conditions apply, select No
  7. Proceed through the Alabama portion of TurboTax to see if this remedies your issue

If this doesn't solve your issue, delete your Alabama and re-input it.  To do this:

  1. Open TurboTax Online
  2. Select  Tax Home in the left pane
  3. Select the dropdown to the right of State Taxes
  4. Select  Pick up where you left off
  5. Select Prepare State in the left pane
  6. On the You've already got a head start on state taxes screen, select Let's get started
  7. On the Status of your state returns screen, select the  trashcan to the right of Alabama
  8. Select Delete on the popup
  9. Back on the Status of your state returns screen, select + Add another State
  10. On the Alright, which state should we work on next? screen, select Alabama from the State dropdown, then select Continue

From there, you can enter your Alabama information again.
