I am filing tax returns for 2 children under 16 for unearned income (1099-B). My question is do I need to file BOTH federal and state returns for them or just federal?

Please keep in mind that a child is not required to file a federal return unless his or her total unearned income is more than $850. Please view the Turbo Tax Blog page below for more information.

You must check your state website, in order to see if he or she must file a state tax return. Please click your state link at the Turbo Tax FAQ below.
