How to upgrade for amendment without filing for this year?

I have to upgrade to Premier for my 2021 amendment but I can't seem to upgrade without filing my past tax return. Hitting the "upgrade now" tab just results in a buffer icon and then a return to the previous screen.

Did you download and install the 2021 amendment program yet ?   Did you update it ?  Did you open the prior year's return ?  If you did then are you entering in new information and are being asked to upgrade ?  Which program did you use last year ?

I opened the 2021 return and amended it with the new information, filed it, and then got the issue I'm experiencing. I'm not sure if I updated the program, can't see any option to do it.

Customer support texted me instructions on how to switch to Premier without filing a return, and that worked, but I'm still getting the buffer problem when I try and file the 2021 amendment. I was previously using Self-Employed.

Ok ... if you are trying to efile a 2021 amended return that is your problem ... the return must be printed, ink signed and mailed in at this late date.  In the FILE tab choose to mail in the return then the forms needed + the mailing instructions will be in the PDF file.
