If you have already filed the tax return -
You will have to wait for the IRS to either Accept or Reject your filed federal tax return.
If the return is rejected you can make the necessary changes and e-file again.
If the return is accepted you will have to amend your original tax return. An amended return, Form 1040-X, can only be printed and mailed to the IRS if the original tax return was not e-filed. The IRS will take up to 20 weeks or longer to process an amended tax return.
Before starting to amend the tax return, wait for the tax refund to be received or the taxes due to be paid and processed by the IRS.
See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a tax return - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-change-correct-return-a...
If you have already filed this tax return for tax year 2023, then you need to amend the return. You must wait for the IRS and any state(s) to process the return, usually a few weeks. THEN you can file an amended form, 1040X, and if your state has income tax, then you need to file an amended state income tax return, too. You will file these on paper and mail in, regardless of whether you have originally filed with e-filing or a paper filing.
However, if you have NOT already e-filed, and you want to remove a W-2 from your current 2023 tax return, you need to navigate to the section for "Wages and Salaries Form W-2". Tab over to "update." You will see all the W-2's in your program file. Here you can edit or delete a W-2. You should only do this if you have NOT YET FILED your 2023 return.
