I'm using 2021 Turbotax Premier. I started a new return and imported from by 2020 Turbotax return. I want to import 2021 data from Schwab, but when I "edit" the existing Schwab 1099 I do not get any option to import directly from Schwab. It only allows adding the info myself. Other than deleting the carryover, empty form and then adding a new 1099, how to I access import to the form that was carried over from 2020?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
look for the command or option to "Import from Financial Institution"
Where is that command ? It does not appear when I select "edit" for that 1099.
is there a "file" tab that you see (upper left). if so click on it and move down to the line that says import. you can't import through the 1099 itself
There are various way into the entry screens for your stock reporting.
In my experience they all give you the option or ask you early on if you want to Import the data.
I don't understand how you can miss it.
Importing from broker statements will not be functional until mid to late February when the broker puts the information into the import portal.
Thank you fanfare. I miss it because it's not there.
Critter-3, that may be the problem. I was thinking that it would show up even before Schwab puts their info into the import portal, but that it would tell me that Schwab had not done that. For example, if I click on "add a new form" it goes to the screen that shows all the brokers, including Schwab, and if I select Schwab it tells me the Schwab data is not yet available.
Yeah ... the forms are available for you to view online and save as a PDF way before they are available on the portal probably due to the regs that say they have until 2/15 to do so AND more important to keep you from using the incorrect info. Until the 1099 says FINAL the form could be changed so never import until the form is final which could be as late as the end of March. They are trying to keep from sending out those annoying corrected statements which forces folks to amend filed returns.
@david kirsch Yes, TurboTax Online currently tells you to wait until Import forms from brokers are ready.
It is there, but you cannot proceed at this time.
I don't have TurboTax desktop to see what it does.
