How to do taxes on state child care

You'll need to report the income that you earn on your tax return.

In other instances your daughter would have to issue you a W2 and create a household employee but since you are the child's grandparent your daughter doesn't have to do that.  You will report this income NOT as self-employment income but as 'Other Income'.

Scroll down to the bottom of the 'Wages & Income' section and enter the amount that you receive as miscellaneous income under the last entry - 'Other Reportable Income'.  For a description you can enter 'Grandparent caring for Grandchild'.

Here is another thread dealing with the same issue.
