How to change my occupation from consultant to retired in state filing?

After I was retired over ten years ago, I did some consulting job until 2023, so I always claim my occupation as consultant.   In 2024 I essentially stopped my consulting work.  Thus, I decided to change my occupation from consultant to retired.  I did this with no problem in Federal filing portion.  However, after doing that, in the California state filing portion, TurboTax still shows my occupation as consultant and it does not give me a option to change.  The closest thing I found was in the Business Summary section.  Under the Principal Business subsection, it listed as Consultant with an Edit button.  However, when I clicked on it, it did not give me the option to change it to Retired.  Can somebody tell me how to do that?  Thanks in advance!

Often, when you want to change an entry on the state return, you need to do it on the federal return so the data will flow down to the state.

When you say "Business Summary", are you referring to the screen with this name in the California interview? This screen is using the business type that you gave it on your Schedule C on the federal return. If this is the case, why would you put "retired" as your principal business?

Are you referring to an "occupation" on the California return? If so, what form and what line?

And, finally, if you are referring to "Occupation", you understand that it does not matter what you enter - there is no wrong answer.

Thanks for your reply.

1.  I have already changed from Consultant to Retired.  However, somehow it didn't flow down.

2.  In the CA form, it WAS automatically noted as Consultant and there's no way to change.

3.  I haven't filled the Federal form yet.  Maybe I should wait for it is finished before start the state form.
