Yes, you can enter this credit into TurboTax and complete your Kansas return, but you will need to mail your state return with your K-26 attached.
I am assuming you have a K-26 with a credit amount on line 9.
This is how to enter the credit amount:
1. Open your return and select Prepare State on the left side.
2. Click Continue.
3. Click Continue or Edit to the right of your Kansas return and click through the first few screens.
4. Look for the screen Take a look at Kansas credits and taxes.
5. Find Other Credits and Credit Carryovers under Other credits.
6. Click Start or Edit to the right.
7. Answer Yes on the next screen.
8. Enter your credit on the second line.
9. Continue through the end of your state return.
You can e-file your federal return and then select print and mail for your state return. Follow the directions to mail your state return with your K-26 attached.
I appreciate your response and help. However I had completed the state filing before I asked this question and my state return was approved. Can I proceed to sending the form to the IRS even after the return was already accepted to prevent any further problems with the IRS?
Schedule K-26 is a Kansas State income tax form, not an IRS form. Your best option is to wait for the state to request this form from you. Waiting avoids having to mail it twice (once now and again when they ask for it). You don't need to send anything to the IRS if you have already e-filed your federal income tax return.
Okay thank you for clarifying this. I appreciate your immediate help and responses.
