How much does Turbo Tax charge to file both federal and state taxes and why are they not up front about it from the beginning? I can't find anywhere what the cost is?

And to have the fees deducted from your federal refund is an EXTRA 39.99 Refund Processing Fee (44.99 in California). Or you can pay with a credit card and avoid the extra charge.

@VolvoGirl. That makes absolutely no sense. You’re still being charged for something that’s actually SUPPOSED to be free. If you pay with a debit card or credit card, you’re still going to be charged the $39.99. If you choose to pay with your refund, you’re still being charged the $39.99. So either way, you have no choice but to pay. The only people who say this isn’t a paywall are TurboTax employees because this is probably commission money.

I’m doing this in 2022 and I’m being charged for BOTH federal and state. Which makes absolutely no sense at all even after choosing the FREE edition one and skipping ANY addons. I haven’t itemized any of my refunds and I’ve been using the standard edition. I wasn’t forced to upgrade to any of the premium packages either so it makes 0 sense why TurboTax is now charging for both federal and state. Time for me to switch back to H&R Block. TurboTax is purposefully charging users to use their services without being upfront about it. That’s very sleazy.

I'm breaking up with turbotax as well! Too bad, I'd been with them for 8 years.
