I have to file prior tax returns 21, 22, 23, and 24; and I am getting a refund for all three years. When I start 2022 tax return should I enter the refund (i.e. 1099-G ) that I know I am getting from state from the 2021 return? (I don't have the 1099-G yet because I am doing all the taxes in one sitting)
Or should I complete all the prior taxes and when I receive the refunds from all those years I can account for them on my 2025 taxes for next year.
Thanks,
Late Bloomer

No, you should not report the refund you are expecting from your 2021 tax return on your 2022 tax return that you are about to file. You include state tax refunds on the return for the year you receive the refund. So, if you were to receive refunds for 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 during the current year - 2025, you would report them all on your 2025 tax return.
No, you do not enter the refunds you think you will get. You will only enter them in some future tax return for the year in which you actually receive the money, and only if you itemized deductions for the tax year in question.
You cannot change the tax year. The current online program is for 2024 only. Only a 2024 return can be prepared online and only a 2024 return can be e-filed.
Online preparation and e-filing for 2021, 2022, and 2023 is permanently closed.
Note: The desktop software you need to prepare the prior year return must be installed/downloaded to a full PC or Mac. It cannot be used on a mobile device.
To file a return for a prior tax year
If you need to prepare a return for 2021, 2022, or 2023 you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign, and mail the return(s)

You may also want to explore purchasing the software from various retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.
Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
did you itemize on schedule A for 2023?
you report2023 state refund on your 2024 tax return only to the extent you deducted state income taxes on 2023 schedule A
Since you did not file 2023 yet, Never Mind.
