Most of my answer was how to switch to the Desktop CD/Download program . It is different than the Online version and has more features and advantages. And you can use a lower version where as in the Online version you have to upgrade to a higher version to enter certain income. All the Desktop programs have the same forms. You just get more help and guidance in the higher versions.
In the Online version if it doesn't let you clear or go to a lower version and you haven't paid and filed you could just start a new account. Online is only good for 1 return per account. But you can use the same email address for 5 accounts. How to start another return in the Online version
This does not remove self employed status. It is still there and does not show an option to switch back.
Won't it let you clear and start over? How to downgrade to a lower version.

To go back to the Free Edition or a lower version you can try to clear and start over

@St1995 If you are going to use online software the only way to downgrade to a less expensive version is to clear and start over. You cannot save the data you entered if you want to use a less expensive software version. As already explained to you, it is possible to switch to the CD/download and preserve the data you have already entered, but if you are set on using online, then your choice is keep the data and continue to use Self-Employed, or lose it when you start over in a lower version.
CLEAR AND START OVER

Or.....if you qualify.....try the IRS Free File site that will become available in January.

just go into turbo tax and on the left side at the bottom click on tax tools > switch to free
