You can start for free and if your return requires forms or schedules not included in the Free edition then you will have to upgrade to the Deluxe edition ($49).  If your return requires forms or schedules not in the Deluxe edition then you will need to upgrade to the Premium edition ($99).  If a state tax return is required that would be an additional $39) for each state tax return required.  If using the Free online edition, the state tax return is also free.
