Did you file a 2021 tax return? Were you eligible for the stimulus for 2021? Was there an amount on line 30 of your 2021 Form 1040?
If someone could claim you as a dependent for 2021 you were not eligible then and will not be eligible now.
Check your own bank account for deposits of the stimulus checks, and check your online account with the IRS to see what the IRS shows they sent to you.
Try checking your online account with the IRS (and if you filed a joint return—check for BOTH of you)
https://www.irs.gov/payments/your-online-account
If you need to trace a payment that the IRS says has been issued to you, mail or fax a completed IRS Form 3911, Taxpayer Statement Regarding Refund.
To have been eligible for the 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit, you must:
If you were eligible and did not receive the rebate then you have to do nothing. You will receive a check in the mail next month.
You say "check your online account with the IRS to see what the IRS shows they sent to you."
I went out to my account, logged in with ID.me, I clicked on everything I could see but nothing tells me one way or the other if this was sent? Where would I look specifically?
Also I am divorced now and no longer live at the address on the 2021 tax return... but my new address is updated online on the irs site, so would they send to my new address?
First, check your copy of your 2021 return. You may have received the Recovery Rebate Credit on your taxes (Form 1040, Line 30).
If not, and you don't see it on your online account with the IRS, you can also call toll-free at 800-829-1040.
Here's more info on How to Check for Recovery Rebate Credit.
Yes my line 30 from that year shows $0
I followed that link too and it didnt give me any other useful info.
So I called the IRS and they checked and said I wasnt issued it, for some reason, but that I could apply for it with my taxes this year... but didnt give details I assume turbotax will help me with that I havent looked yet.
I asked them too where online I would see that and they didnt know either.
So would be helpful with whomever started the thread, if you say it is online, maybe give a few more details, like what tab, click on what to see it, if you dont see anything that means you arent getting it and you should call them, etc.
Also if there's another form to fill out to "request" it, then that would be good to know too.
Thanks,
@mattw112 There is no place to enter anything about the 2021 stimulus check on your 2024 tax return.
If you filed a 2021 return and did not use the recovery rebate credit you can amend your 2021 return to use the recovery rebate credit in Federal Review. If someone else could claim you as a dependent in 2021 you will not be eligible for the credit.
File your amended 2021 return by April 15, 2025.
See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a tax return - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-change-correct-return-a...
Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.
You can watch for information here:
https://www.irs.gov/Filing/Individuals/Amended-Returns-(Form-1040-X)/Wheres-My-Amended-Return-1
I think I figured it out.. the items you listed for getting this in the original post were not fully complete there's also income consideration which makes it so you get nothing if you make over a certain amount, which is probably why I didnt get it.
Who is eligible?
Do I qualify for this rebate....showed Zero onmy2021 filing
TurboTax does not know who will receive the stimulus checks that the IRS is sending. The IRS has identified some people who were eligible for the 3rd EIP payment who did not receive it and did not use the recovery rebate credit on their 2021 tax returns, so the IRS is sending out those payments. You should check your online account with the IRS---many people received the 3rd stimulus before they filed their 2021 return, so they did not need to use the credit on their tax return.
Look at your online account with the IRS to see if they sent you $1400 in 2021.
https://www.irs.gov/payments/your-online-account
If you could be claimed as someone else's dependent in 2021, you are not eligible for the payment.
If you were eligible and do not receive a payment soon from the IRS, the other way to get the payment is to r amend your 2021 return to use the recovery rebate credit before April 15, 2025. If you did not file a 2021 return at all, then prepare one and mail it in.
Now do i know if I qualify for stimulus
@Lisawilke There is no stimulus check for 2024. The stimulus checks were issued for 2020 and 2021. If anyone could claim you as a dependent for either of those years, you were not eligible then and would not be eligible now. It is too late for the 2020 payments. It is not too late for the 2021 stimulus check but you would have to file by April 15, 2025 or it will be too late for that one too.
Look at your online account with the IRS to see if they sent you $1400 in 2021.

The statement that you have to "do nothing" but wait for the refund is 100% inaccurate information and can make people lose out on money because they did not submit the appropriate documentation.
The directions that xmasbaby0 has provided are accurate concerning how to check to see if you received a stimulus payment for 2021 and how to claim the stimulus payment by either filing a 2021 tax return if you haven't already filed, or amending your 2021 return to claim the recovery rebate credit if you haven't done that. Again, the deadline is April 15, 2025.
