This is the first it asked me for them. I am not sure when this was implemented. Is it possible to receive the pins online or by mail? How do I request them?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
Unless you reported to the IRS that you needed an IP PIN for your dependent children and the IRS sent you a 6 digit IP PIN for the children, there is no need to for the IP PIN to be entered on your tax return.
If you had issues with your kids being fraudulently claimed, probably an IRS identity protection pin is the issue.
There are several kinds of pins.
Choose which PIN and see the article related:
This is what I figured. But, it wont let continue to file without.
If IRS set up a PIN for yourself you can go on IRS.gov to look it up.
I'm not sure of the process for looking it up for dependents.
If you can look up the PIN for dependents, I guess that defeats the purpose, eh?
Hello Everyone,
I reinput my pin and reviewed my return and it got accepted. I was able to continue with my dependents pin. Thank you everyone
You have to enter the IP Pins on the tax return or it will get rejected
