You can purchase the TurboTax program for that year (if you don't already have it) and install it on your computer.
Then you can open the prior year rejected return and fix it, depending on what the error was.
Here's more info on Rejection Error Codes.
I don't have a see an error code when I log into my account. Where would I find it in my account? When I login and go to prior years taxes it just gives me an option to download the data file and that year's desktop version so I can work with the file.
Do you have an old email with the rejection error code? If not, you may have to phone Customer Support and see if they can look up your rejection error code.

I found the emails and this is what the rejection codes are as follows. I assume the 2022 had an issue due to the 2021. if you can help in anyway that would be great.
2021 - IL1040-8200-1 - "The Primary Taxpayer Drivers License number or State ID number did not match the Drivers License or State ID number on the Illinois Department of Revenue production file.
2022 - IL1040-8100-1 - "The Primary Taxpayer Prior Year Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) did not match the Prior Year AGI on the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR) production file.
Since you can no longer e-file the past year state return, forget about the driver's license issue. It does not matter . The only way you can file your past year state return is by mail. You do not. need DL information or AGI to file by mail. Print it, sign it and date it in ink, and mail it to the state.
So I should paper file both 2021 and 2022? What about 2023 that I am about to do? Also should I just send in the original not amended and do I need to send in the W2's and any 1099's?
If the only reason the returns were rejected was the drivers license information, that is not a reason to amend those tax returns. Leave them alone. Just print them for filing by mail.
When you mail a tax return, include copies of any W-2's or 1099's that show tax withheld. As for 2023---try e-filing and if you are unable to e-file, then file 2023 by mail too. Do not put them all in the same envelope or you risk that the state employee who opens the envelope overlooks one or more of the returns. Each year should be mailed separately.
The state of IL is pretty picky about the drivers license or state ID information you enter----so you need to make sure you are entering the issue date and expiration dates in the right places in the software.
@xmasbaby0 I was never asked to enter a drives license and I used the online version, so I am not sure the issue. What is your thought on the 2022 issue? Also just mail out the original?
Yes----AGI does not matter when you mail a return. Do not amend for that. You said the 2021 rejection was for drivers license or state ID information. 2022 was for AGI. Neither one of those matter when you are mailing the returns. E-filing is closed for 2021 and for 2022. The only way you can file those returns is by mail.
I am guessing that doing so on the state's website is also not an option more.?
Again----e-filing is permanently closed for all tax years except 2023. Mail your returns. Use separate envelopes. It is also a good idea to use certified mail with tracking so you will know it was received. If you are getting a refund there is no penalty for filing late. If you owe tax due, you are going to be billed by the state for late penalties and interest.
Thank for all of your help. I am getting a refund for 1 year and owe less than $10 for another year.
