Do you mean a rejected e-file? E-filing is permanently closed for any pst year returns including 2022. And when it re-opens sometime in January, only a 2023 return can be e-filed. If your e-file was rejected, the only way to file the tax return is by mail. Most rejections are for AGI, and AGI no longer matters since you only needed AGI in order to e-file. You need to print your return, sign and date it in ink, and mail it in.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
You cannot efile a return any longer so the efile rejection is immaterial ... so print, ink sign and mail it in.
