How do I fix a rejected federal return?

Depends on the reason for the reject.

What is the reject message and code?

How do I fix a rejected federal return?

I got two reject codes. See the codes and descriptions below. The first says its auto resolved. I checked the second and I have done it correctly so I don't see anything that needs to be fixed...

F1040-266-01:

Description of error:
If in [OtherIncomeTypeStatement] present in the return, 'OtherIncomeLitCd' has the value "FORM 2555", then the sum of all corresponding 'OtherIncomeAmt' must be equal to the [ sum of all Forms 2555, Line 45 'TotalIncomeExclusionAmt' ] multiplied by negative 1 (i.e., multiply by minus 1).

What needs to be done:
This return was not e-filed due to a timing issue or a processing error that has been corrected. No changes are needed to your tax return, it just needs to be e-filed again. Open the rejected return, review it for errors, and resubmit the return for electronic filing. If the reject continues you may need to print and file this return by mail.

SD-F1040-001:

Description of error:
Schedule D (Form 1040), 'NetSTAndLTCapitalGainOrLossAmt' or 'AllowableLossAmt' must be equal to 'CapitalGainLossAmt' in the return unless Form 8958 is present in the return.

What needs to be done:
Review information that appears on Schedule D, Capital Gains and Losses. One of the values on Schedule D, Line 16 - Net Short Term and Long Term Capital Gain or Loss Amount, or Line 21 - Allowable Loss Amount must be equal to Schedule 1, Line 13 - Capital Gain Loss Amount, unless Form 8958, Allocation of Tax Amounts Between Certain Individuals in Community Property States is present.
