How do I e-file with the living separately box checked, but filing as married jointly?

My mother-in-law is filing jointly with her now deceased husband. Her husband was in a nursing home for all of 2016, so I had the living separately box checked, yet TurboTax won't let me e-file if that box is checked. I'm afraid if I say they did live together, but they didn't, her return will be flagged for inaccuracy.

Should I uncheck the box and e-file or print out mail via regular mail?

They would still be considered as living together while she was in a nursing home.
